Miles from my desk
in Littleport, Ely

For Wisbech’s agriculture, food, retail and family businesses.

Wisbech is 25 miles from my desk in Ely. Close enough for a coffee, far enough that most of the work happens online.

Wisbech — the Capital of the Fens — sits between Ely and King’s Lynn on the River Nene, with one of the finest Georgian streets in England (North Brink) and an economy built on agriculture and food. Apples, brassicas, potatoes, soft fruit, pack-houses, processors and the supply chain around them. The town centre has independent retailers around the Old Market, professional services on Hill Street, and a handful of family businesses that have been going for generations.

I work with small businesses across Cambridgeshire and the Fens. Wisbech is 35 minutes from Ely via the A47 — close enough to come in person, far enough that most of the work happens at distance, on email and video, with files moving cleanly between us.

Non-negotiables
3
Things every site I build
has to do

Three things. Every single site.

Not a list of features. A list of refusals. Things I won’t ship a website without, because if it doesn’t do these three things, it isn’t earning its keep.

01

Designed for the customer. Not the boss.

Most websites are written by the company, for the company. I write yours for the person reading it at 9pm, on a phone, with a problem to solve. The brief starts with them, not with you.

01
02

Fast as the morning post.

Sub-second load times. Lighthouse scores in the 90s. Hosted on UK servers, built on lean WordPress, optimised before launch rather than as a fix-up six months later. Speed is conversion.

02
03

Easy to update without me.

You shouldn’t have to ring a designer to change the opening hours. Sites are built on a simple WordPress editor with a half-hour training session at handover and a one-page guide for the bits you’ll touch most.

03
How it works
4–6
Weeks from first call
to launch day

Four steps. No surprises.

The same process for every Wisbech project, whether it’s a five-page brochure site or a full e-commerce build. You always know what happens next.

i.

Discovery

Week 1

We talk about the business, the customer and what the site actually needs to do. You get a clear proposal and a fixed quote before anything starts.

ii.

Design

Week 2–3

I design the key pages around your customer, not your org chart. You see real layouts early and we refine them together before the build begins.

iii.

Build

Week 3–5

The site gets built on lean, fast WordPress: responsive, accessible, and optimised for speed and search from day one rather than bolted on later.

iv.

Launch & care

Week 5–6

We launch, I train you on the parts you’ll touch, and I’m still here afterwards. The person who built it picks up the phone when you need a change.

Common questions

Web design in Wisbech, plainly answered.

The questions that start most first calls, including the ones about cost, timelines and who actually does the work.

Prefer to talk?Book a 20-minute call or email enquiries@lordknows.co.uk. Same-day reply, Monday to Friday.
Do you work with businesses in Wisbech?+
Yes. I work with small businesses across Cambridgeshire and the East, and Wisbech is 25 miles from my base in Littleport, Ely, about a 35-minute drive. Most of the work happens over email and video, with in-person meetings for the brief, photography or launch when they help.
How much does a website cost?+
Most small-business sites land between £1,700 and £10,000, depending on size and complexity. A typical brochure site for a Wisbech business starts around £1,700. You get a fixed quote before any work begins, with no hourly surprises.
How long does it take?+
Four to six weeks from kick-off to launch for a typical site, depending on how quickly content and feedback come back. Bigger e-commerce or bespoke builds take longer. I’ll give you a realistic timeline at the quote stage.
Who actually does the work?+
I do. There’s no account manager, no junior, no outsourcing. The person you brief is the person who designs, builds and looks after your site, and the same person who replies when something needs changing. That’s always been the deal.
Do we have to meet in person?+
No. Plenty of clients I’ve never met in person, and the work is no worse for it. But Wisbech is close enough that I’m happy to come over for the first conversation, a photography day or a launch debrief if you’d rather do it face to face.
Will my site show up on Google?+
That’s the point. Every site is built on lean, fast WordPress with the SEO basics done properly from day one: clean structure, sensible page titles, quick load times. For Wisbech businesses competing on local search, that foundation does a lot of the heavy lifting.
