Privacy and cookies.
Last updated 1 May 2026. No tricks, no dark patterns, no quietly selling your details on. Plain English, GDPR-aware.
This page explains what personal information I collect when you use www.lordknows.co.uk, what I do with it, and how you can ask me to remove it. I’m a one-person business (Adam Lord, trading as Lord Knows) so I’m the data controller for everything described below. I’m registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, registration number ZC171843, which you can check on the ICO’s public register.
Visitors to my website
I collect anonymous information about the use of my website to find out information such as the parts of my site that are most and least used.
When someone visits www.lordknows.co.uk I use standard web server logging to record requested website pages and files and the IP address from which requests are made. The IP address doesn’t identify individual users.
I also use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect information such as pages visited, actions taken, location of the user (at the level of region or city) and technology used. This information is anonymous.
What information do I collect about you?
I only collect information about you if I’ve a reason to do so, for example to provide services or information more tailored to your needs, to communicate with you, or to improve my services. Usually, this is your name, organisation, email address and enquiry or preferences.
People who make an enquiry via the website
If you submit an enquiry form on my website I’ll securely retain your contact details and enquiry until you request me to delete your details by emailing enquiries@lordknows.co.uk.
The forms are delivered to my inbox by FormSubmit, a form-to-email service (FormSubmit’s privacy policy).
If you book a call, your name, email address, business and anything you write are kept on this website so I can hold the call, and sent by email to you and to me. The calendar only checks when I’m free; nothing about you goes to any other service. The booking is deleted from this website a year after the call, or sooner if you ask.
How I know where enquiries come from
When you arrive on this website, your browser keeps a small note of how you found it (a Google search, a link from another site, an advert or typing the address in), the first page you saw, when you first visited and how many times you’ve been back. It’s kept in your browser’s own storage rather than a cookie, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you send me an enquiry.
If you do, that note travels with your message as one line, for example “Found you via Search: google.co.uk, landing on /web-design-ely/”, so I can see which pages and searches bring in work. It’s never shared with anyone or used for advertising, and it’s kept only with your enquiry, so it’s deleted along with your details if you ask.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, nothing is recorded. You can also switch it off here, which clears the note straight away:
People who sign up to receive newsletters via the website
If you sign up to receive newsletters on my website I’ll securely retain your contact details and preferences until you request us to delete your details by emailing enquiries@lordknows.co.uk or following the ‘unsubscribe’ link on a newsletter email.
Your name, organisation, email address and preferences will be held securely on MailChimp’s servers. View MailChimp’s privacy policy.
Retention of personal information
In some cases, there are legal requirements to keep personal data for a minimum period, for example, if it must be retained by court order or where Lord Knows is under a contractual obligation to retain it. If there’s no such legal requirement, I’ll only keep the personal data for so long as it’s necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as expressly consented. If I no longer need your personal information, I’ll delete it. Even if I delete your personal data, it may persist on backup media for an additional period of time for legal, tax or regulatory reasons, or for legitimate and lawful business purposes.
Sharing of information
I will never share or sell your personal information with any other organisation.
Cookies
This site uses very few cookies, plus a little of your browser’s own storage. The Google Analytics cookies are only set if you say yes on the small cookie note that appears on your first visit; say no and the site works exactly the same without them. If you do say yes, the same Analytics data also tells me whether a visit came from one of my own Google adverts. It isn’t used to show you adverts anywhere else, and nothing is sold or shared for anyone else’s advertising. You can clear or block any of it in your browser’s settings, and clearing this site’s data brings the note back so you can choose again. The lists below were checked against the live site in October 2026.
- Set by this site: two Google Analytics cookies that count visits, set only once you’ve said yes on the cookie note, and four small notes in your browser’s storage that do a job for you.
- Set by other services: none. The booking calendar is part of this website and sets nothing.
Set by this site
| Name | What it’s for |
|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics, only set once you’ve said yes on the cookie note. Tells one visit from another so I can count visitors and see which pages are read. A cookie, kept for up to two years (some browsers shorten this). |
_ga_J2N4WMBVXS |
Google Analytics, only set once you’ve said yes on the cookie note. Keeps track of the visit you’re on. A cookie, kept for up to two years. How Google uses information from sites that use its services. |
lordknows_brief_v1 |
Saves your answers on the project brief as you go, so nothing is lost if you leave the page. Kept in your browser’s storage, not a cookie, and deleted when you send the brief. |
lk_attr, lk_attr_session |
How you found the site, as described under How I know where enquiries come from. Kept in your browser’s storage, not a cookie; the second part is cleared when you close the browser. |
lk_attr_off |
Only there if you’ve switched that off: it remembers your choice. Kept in your browser’s storage, not a cookie. |
lk_consent |
Your answer on the cookie note, yes or no, so you aren’t asked on every page. Kept in your browser’s storage, not a cookie. Clear this site’s data and the note comes back. |
Set by other services
None. Booking a call happens on this website, so opening the booking calendar sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else.
Questions or concerns? If you have any questions about the cookies used on this site, or you’d like me to delete any information I hold on you, email enquiries@lordknows.co.uk and I’ll do my best to help. The terms & conditions sit alongside this policy.
