How it started.

A short version of a long story — university, a search engine called AltaVista, a few stints at corporates and agencies, and a quiet decision to step away from the layers and work directly with people who actually run businesses.

I discovered web design at university back in 2000. There was no Facebook, no Twitter — I was using AltaVista as a search engine. But I fell in love with building websites straight away, and I've never stopped.

Since then, I've worked for large corporates, educational institutions, and creative agencies. I've built and run my own digital agencies. And in all that time, the thing I've enjoyed most is working directly with business owners — understanding what they need, building something that works for them, and watching their business grow because of it.

That's why I set up Lord Knows. I wanted to get back to what I love: working one-to-one with people who care about their business, without the layers of account managers and project coordinators that agencies put in the way.

02 — Working with me

What it's like working with me.

When you hire Lord Knows, you deal directly with me. There's no sales team, no account manager, no outsourcing to freelancers you've never met. Just three things you can count on, on every project — without exception.

I handle everything — the first call, the design, the build, the launch, the ongoing care. No handovers, no offshore teams, no support tickets disappearing into a queue. You get my number. When you ring, I pick up. When you email, you get an answer that day — not a reference number, not a chatbot, not a five-day SLA.

Most of my clients have been with me for years, some for over a decade. Not because they're locked in — because the work works, and the relationship works. I take the time to understand your business, your customers, and what you're trying to achieve.

Things I do
when I'm not building sites

Away from the desk.

When I'm not building websites you'll find me with the kids, on a footpath with our cockapoo Eric, on a plane somewhere new, in a London restaurant, or at home with a record on. The better ideas usually come from the long walks anyway.

The kids.

Every other weekend — and now they're teenagers. Shopping with Emily, hiking with James, eating out, days out, and the pesto pasta Emily insists I make properly.

Tent pitched in the British countryside

Hiking & camping.

Just me, Eric, and a rucksack. We walked the Norfolk Coastal Path (worth it for the food alone), with the Peak District and the Lake District ticked off along the way.

Somewhere worth travelling for

Travel.

City breaks and beaches, in roughly equal measure. A passion for snorkelling. A weakness for a cruise.

Vinyl records.

Mostly nineties and sixties. Hi-fi is the kind of hobby that quietly empties a wallet — chasing the perfect sound is its own rabbit hole.

Food worth slowing down for

Food.

Always trying new restaurants — for the passion as much as the plate. Long dinners with friends, a good wine alongside. Often a quiet train to London on my own, just to see what's opened.

A glass of whisky

A glass of whisky.

Single malts, mostly — Islay over Speyside if pushed. Drunk slowly: ideally in a quiet pub by a fire, otherwise at home with a record spinning.

A few lines is plenty — what the business does, what's not working with the current site, and what good would look like. I'll come back with honest thoughts, not a sales pitch.
