It started at university, and it stuck.
The short version of a long story.
I found web design at university, back when AltaVista was the search engine and Facebook was years away. My first commercial site went live in 2001, and there have been more than 1,200 since: independents, family firms, charities, national names like RWE, npower and Thames Water, and plenty of businesses that have stayed with me for years.
Since then I’ve worked for large corporates, in education and at creative agencies, and I’ve built and run agencies of my own. Good work, mostly. But every layer that gets added, the account manager, the project coordinator, the ticket queue, puts the person who runs the business further from the person doing the work. The bit I always enjoyed was sitting with that person: understanding what they needed, building something that worked, and watching their business grow because of it.
So I set up Lord Knows to keep just that bit. One person you deal with from the first call to the ongoing care, a fixed price agreed in writing before anything starts, and a site you own outright at the end. Most of my clients are in Cambridgeshire and East Anglia; a fair few are further afield and we get on fine over Zoom.
